Hello folks, hope everyone had a nice week! I spent mine in Patagonia — Calafate and El Chalten — and saw a real-life glacier up close. Holy crap.
The Perito Merino Glacier (photos below) is located in the Los Glaciares National Park which, along with Antartica and Greenland, makes up around 90 percent of the world’s drinking water. I never thought I’d see a glacier in person, so the moment was totally surreal and I still can’t quite believe what I saw.
Yesterday I completed the 20km hike to Laguna de los Tres, which sits at the base of Mt. Fitz Roy. After two hours or relatively flat trekking, I was wondering what all the fuss was about. But then the 450-meter ascent, essentially up the side of the mountain, began and I was very quickly proverbially brought back down to earth. Anyway, I did it, my hips remain on fire, and I’ve included some photos below.
