It’s that time of the week again, happy Monday folks!
Some huge news over the weekend out of New York, where the Freelance Isn’t Free Act passed in the state’s Senate. Per Publishers Weekly: “The law requires employers to provide written contracts for all freelance workers and that those freelancers be paid by the agreed-upon date or within 30 days of the completion of the work. It also permits freelancers to collect double the agreed-upon fee if employers do not satisfy those requirements.” 🥳
We also have some potentially seismic news today in the UK with a no-confidence vote of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Voting is due to take place between 6-8pm BST, with the results announced immediately after. If Johnson gets fewer than 180 votes, the search will begin for a new leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the UK.
