✍️✍️ Journalism Awards, Events and Fellowship Deadlines ✍️✍️ — April 14
Journalism deadlines, Substack Notes and Twitter, and new awards, events and fellowships
Hello folks and happy Friday! As I mentioned on Tuesday, Substack’s new social media platform, Notes, is officially live! This comes after Elon Musk temporarily banned Substack from Twitter and conceded that Substack is an official competitor.
Recent changes to Twitter mean a large chunk of this newsletter’s reach and growth are gone. So if you know anyone that will find our content and journalism jobs board useful, please do share us with them.
Eitherway, the cracks in the current social media landscape are showing. Any time incumbents resist, it means they’re concerned. For Substack, that means they’ve reached the next rung on the ladder, and people are taking notice. Twitter, for example, has just announced it has extended the number of characters its paid subscribers can tweet, as well as monetization options.
As social media companies continue to fight for user attention, I’m reminded of the danger of relying on just one or two platforms. So going forward I’ll be thinking of what the next social media platform or media format is. Got any thoughts on what it might be? Comment below.
Aside from Notes and changing social media ecosystems, I’ve restocked our calendar of journalism awards, events and fellowship deadlines. My favorites include SPJ’s event on ChatGPT: What Could Go Wrong? Or Right?; the Outlier Conference on data visualization; and IRE’s 2023 Board Elections. Be sure to check back next week for another round of new listings.
As always, if you’re an employer or recruiter with openings now or in the future, fill out this form or email me at daniellevitt32@gmail.com to have your jobs promoted. And if you’re one of our paid subscribers, join our Candidate Board to have employers come to you directly.
And lastly, check out our featured jobs below from Bellingcat, Politico Europe and RadioFreeEurope. Okay, that’s all for this week. See you again on Monday!
