✍️✍️ Journalism Awards, Events and Fellowship Deadlines ✍️✍️ — April 21
Layoff help, internships and journalism jobs, awards, events and fellowship deadlines
Hello folks and welcome to another Friday edition. Unfortunately we have to begin on a somber note, after the announcement that BuzzFeed News will be shutting down. While it wasn’t much of a surprise, it’s still always a shock to those involved and the industry as a whole. BuzzFeed News was more than a website: it defined an era.
This comes after Insider announced it will let go of 10% of its U.S. staff, with CEO Henry Blodget saying the decision was due to the “significant” drop in advertising revenue and less time spent consuming news.
All of this to say that I want to help as many folks as possible. If you have been affected by recent layoffs, or know someone who has, email me at daniellevitt32@gmail.com and I’ll see what we can do to help.
In other news, next week we’ll be publishing a giant list of last-minute internships for the summer, as well as opportunities to get ahead for fall placements. Remember, starting your job search months in advance is key to landing the job, and it’s never too premature to start. If you want more tips and advice, on Monday I wrote about how I got my jobs and internships at the likes of The Guardian, Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg.
