Safety training is vitally important for freelance journalists planning to work in hostile environments. The Rory Peck Trust Training Fund enables freelance journalists to gain the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in difficult and potentially dangerous situations. Launched in 2000, the fund has given hundreds of bursaries to freelance journalists, photographers, camera operators and filmmakers to allow them to take part in training with one of their trusted course providers. Courses teach them to assess risk and spot danger, handle a crisis, support others and give vital first aid.

Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award 2024
This award honors the life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer and IWMF Courage in Journalism Award winner Anja Niedringhaus (1965-2014). Anja was killed in an attack in Afghanistan while covering the country’s 2014 presidential election. The winner will be a woman photojournalist whose work reflects courage and dedication.
