Hello folks! Welcome to another Friday edition of Inside The Newsroom, home of the largest journalism calendar in the world (to my knowledge, at least). Today we have 44 total listings, broken down as follows: 16 fellowships (6 new); 24 events (15 new); and 4 awards (all new).

I’m extremely excited that I also have another 100+ listings in the stable, but due to Substack’s newsletter limits, I’m going to be adding an external platform to host the rest. Whether that’s a cloud calendar, or another section on the job board spreadsheet is still yet to be determined, but do keep an eye out for an announcement shortly.

On Tuesday, I added more than 600 new journalism jobs and internships across the U.S., UK, Canada and Europe. Job categories include Audience, Audio, Broadcast, Data Viz, Design, Editing, Photo, Product, Reporting, Social Media, Strategy and Video. Basically any job that requires journalism and media-related skills.

Unfortunately, there was more bad news as it pertains to layoffs this week, this time coming from The Messenger. While it’s encouraging that there are still people out there that want to try to find a niche within media and create lots of jobs along the way, the fact that The Messenger blew through $50 million in less than a year left my eyebrows raised at its recklessness and arrogance.

I know how many people who have lost their jobs recently feel. Almost three years ago, I was forced to choose between my job as a graphics reporter with the Wall Street Journal and this newsletter. I chose the latter, which was easily the hardest and most terrifying decision I’ve ever had to make, but looking back it was a no-brainer. The feelings of rejection and injustice set me back about a year, but fortunately I’ve been able to recover and now so thankful I don’t have to deal with corporate bullshit anymore.

Anyway, it’s not about me in this moment, but if I can help in any way, please do reach out at daniellevitt32@gmail.com.

Additionally, I’m currently offering anybody affected by recent layoffs free access to the job board, so reply to this newsletter or email at the above address and I’ll get you set up.
