Freelance Jobs And Pitches Have Arrived; Plus hundreds of new journalism jobs, internships, fellowships, grants, webinars, workshops, mentorship schemes and awards; 50% discount for your first year
Hello folks, happy Wednesday and welcome to another edition of Inside The Newsroom, journalism’s job board.
As we inch ever closer to the holidays, I always try to find the right balance between slowing down to enjoy the festivities, and continuing a respectable level of production so that my momentum isn’t totally lost heading into January. But as the years pass, I’ve realized that the bulk of this conundrum comes down to guilt and fear. Guilt that I should be doing more, and fear of what I’m already doing isn’t enough. More and more though, I allow myself to go with the flow, sometimes working and thinking about my next project, other times completely letting go and freeing myself of all expectations. The true lesson here has been to cut out the noise and do as much as I can for myself, insead of what I think others expect from me. There will always be more work to do and more money to earn, but you simply can’t get back time.
With all of that said, while I’ll absolutely pour myself a cheeky Bailey’s or three over the next few weeks, I will still be in your inbox each and every week this month so that you can work a little if you choose.
As for this week’s newsletter, freelance jobs and pitch calls are finally here. I mentioned last month that, as part of our drive to help our full-time freelancers and those who have recently been laid off, we will be launching a separate freelance job board. And today that day has arrived…
We already have our first 200 roles and pitches, which can be found on the ‘Freelance Roles and Pitches’ tab on your spreadsheet. And the good news is that I’ve found hundreds more, so we’ll be ramping that up heading into 2025 and beyond.
I’ve also searched far and wide this week in order to maintain our healthy level of jobs and opportunities. Despite the slowdown, I was still able to keep the total number of jobs and internships on our Journalism Job Board above 1,000, and our Journalism Calendar to in and around 130 entries. No doubt, we will be bursting at the seams with new opportunities before long once January arrives.
I mentioned last week that you can gift paid subscriptions to a friend, colleague or whoever you wish, with an Inside The Newsroom Gift Subscription. These are one-offs that start at just $3.50/£2.75, so you can get in and out without having to subscribe to a monthly or yearly plan. Click the button below for more info on that…
And if you’re looking for one of those monthly or yearly subscriptions, you can do so by subscribing below and taking advantage of our current offer of 50% off your first 12 months. Again, click the button below for more info…
