Mycoskie-UC Berkeley Psychedelic Documentary Journalism Fellowship
The Mycoskie-UC Berkeley Psychedelic Documentary Fellowship aims to empower a new generation of filmmakers exploring the burgeoning field of psychedelics. They're looking for groundbreaking narratives fit for cinematic storytelling – untold stories that captivate audiences and shed light on the science, policy, business and culture of this new era of psychedelics. They're committed to fostering a diverse pool of filmmakers to document this rapidly changing field.

Amount: Three $10,000 fellowships for students; Two $25,000 fellowships for early- to mid-career filmmakers

USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism
The Center for Health Journalism’s Child Welfare Symposium is free and open to journalists. It will explore policy and journalism on the child welfare system, which investigates and removes children from their homes at alarming rates, disproportionately impacting children of color, and leading to worse outcomes and compounding family trauma.
Type: Webinar
Location: Online
When: October 24
The Center for Health Journalism’s Impact Reporting Fund supports ambitious investigative or explanatory projects on the child welfare and foster care systems, as well as the social and economic policies and conditions that can strengthen or weaken families and communities. They encourage trauma-informed reporting, with an eye toward systemic inequity, as well as stories that explore promising initiatives to support children and families.
Type: Grant
Grant: $2,000-$10,000
Program: Five months of professional mentorship from a veteran journalist; Monthly virtual cohort meetings; Eligibility to compete for a $1,000-$2,000 engagement grant and five months of one-on-one engagement mentoring.

The Dallas Morning News
The Dallas Morning News offers 10- to 12-week internships in most newsroom departments during the summer. Positions include: Local News, Multiplatform Editing, Photo and Sports.
2025 College Internship Program
Location: Dallas, TX
Salary: $18 per hour
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree (associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate) or may have graduated within six months of the internship start date. Previous daily newspaper experience is requested. All applications must include a cover letter, résumé and three references reachable by phone. Most positions require additional materials, such as writing samples. Only electronic applications are accepted.

Deadlines for fellowships and grants include UNESCO’s Global Media Defense Fund which supports local, regional and global not-for-profit organizations to bolster journalists’ legal protection; support grants to attend the Internet Governance Forum; and Environmental Investigation Grants by JournalismFund EU.
Upcoming conferences, workshops and webinars include Talking Baseball with Hall of Fame Writer Claire Smith; the International Institute for Information Design’s workshop on Visualizing Public Broadcast News; the National Press Foundation’s webinar on How to Fact-Check the 2024 Election; and the National Union of Journalists’ online Local Democracy Reporter Summit.
And lastly a couple of awards programs with deadlines in the next week: the Reynolds Journalism Institute’s 2025 Student Innovation Competition, which awards up to $10,000 to the winner; and the True Story Award 2025, which awards up to $20,000 to the winner.
