We’ll begin with the big presidential election taking place over the weekend in Brazil, which will see incumbent Jair Bolsonaro faceoff against former President Lula da Silva. With just a couple days to go, da Silva is on the brink of a remarkable comeback story that saw him jailed in 2018 on corruption charges that prevented him standing in that year’s election and allowed Bolsonaro to win, only for the charges to be overturned a year later.
Talking of elections, check out GIJN’s Tips for Using Flourish to Visualize Elections Data. I know first hand how hard it is to learn and implement code into a newsroom’s CMS and workflow. Fortunately data visualization software has never been more accessible and easy to use for folks with no coding experience, and Flourish is among the best.
If you work in audience strategy or newsletters, you’ll know how difficult it can be to yield a worthwhile return on customer feedback surveys. The Financial Times’ Head of Newsletters, Sarah Ebner, and Head of Audience Feedback Research, Michael Hoole, dished the dirt on how they got more than 78,000 survey replies.
And we’ll end with the American Association for Cancer Research’s $5,000 prize for compelling stories on cancer. It’s free to enter and anyone working in print, broadcast and online media can apply. Deadline is December 7, 2022.
