✍️ Journalism Jobs, Internships, Fellowships, Events, Awards and Salaries ✍️ — November 13
Freelance Jobs? Tell us if you want to see freelance jobs added to Inside The Newsroom; Plus 400+ new journalism jobs, internships, fellowships, grants, workshops, webinars, conferences and awards
Hello folks, happy Wednesday and welcome to another edition of Inside The Newsroom, the largest journalism job board and calendar in the world.
This week I want to talk about layoffs and the increased role freelancing is having in journalism. Since the beginning of this year, there have been thousands of layoffs in the industry, and that trend is likely to continue into 2025. That has led more and more journalists to turn to freelancing. In the past, freelancing predominantly appealed to those who wanted increased flexibility, but in recent years it has become a necessity for many to survive. As someone who has gone through that very journey, I know how difficult it is to succeed as an independent journalist, but also that it is absolutely possible, and opportunities to succeed are very much still there.
So we’ve been thinking about what we can do to help. A few months ago we launched a scheme whereby if you’ve been one of those unfortunate people to have lost your job recently, or are worried about the short-term security of your position, we’ll grant you access to all of our databases of opportunities free of charge. Simply email me at daniellevitt32@gmail.com and we’ll get you set up.
And now we want to add another layer of help. That next step comes in the form of freelance roles and, while we do currently add freelance roles when we see them, they haven’t been the focus. Now we have the ability to add hundreds of new freelance opportunities each week, so we want to hear from you: Do you want us to add more freelance jobs and pitches?
With all of that said, there are still plenty of new full- and part-time openings each week, of which we’re easily able to add more than 400 each week. If that’s more of what you’re looking for, then take advantage of our current two-week free trial program.
Here’s a reminder of everything that you’ll gain access to by becoming a paid subscriber:
1,000+ journalism full- and part-time jobs and internships.
150+ journalism fellowships and grants, webinars and conferences, awards and competitions.
11,500+ historical media salaries from the start of 2023.
Direct line to Daniel’s inbox for any questions about journalism or life.
That’s all for today. Don’t forget to vote in our poll and we’ll hopefully get enough support to start that within the next few weeks. Until next time! 👋
